At Snowflakes Childcare, we believe in teachers being co-constructors with children.
Our teachers use scaffolding teaching strategies within an emergent curriculum that connects to our planning. We aim to be a place where families/whanau from all cultures are welcomed and valued and children/tamariki are safe and happy.
We also believe in using our communities natural resources i.e. playgrounds and beaches for many wonderful, natural and socio educational outings & experiences. We want our resources and interactions to result in positive learning outcomes. Wherever possible we provide educational opportunities to all children within our centre. We regularly celebrate positive cultural and religious events across the year (e.g Chinese New Year, Matariki and traditional Christmas stories) and are dedicated to empowering children to embrace their whole future (i.e. social and educational).
We use the Principles and Strands of Te Whāriki, the Early Childhood Curriculum which holds the aspiration for children, “to grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.” This approach helps achieve a smooth transition between preschool and primary school. We are committed to the principles and articles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and will reflect the dual heritage of New Zealand/Aotearoa throughout our programs. We believe Te Reo is part of New Zealand’s bi-cultural heritage and an important aspect of Te Whāriki. Our teachers use Te Reo & Tikanga Māori daily as part of our integral routines and play, as well as through music, stories & experiences.
We ensure top quality education and care by keeping low ratios, allowing frequent one to one interactions between children and our teachers. Our vision is to offer a close family environment that values open communication and encourages reciprocal relationships between children, teachers, parents, whanau, extended family and the community and we are committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle. Our teachers endeavor to develop professionally and work together as a happy and professional family team. We celebrate each other’s differences and contributions through open communication, being supportive and respectful while embracing challenge. Together these features will create opportunities for a high quality, holistic and empowering teaching program.
